Attorneys Trey Ferguson and Dave Baxter gave a 2-hour ethics training to newly elected officials at the Eastern Carolina Council of Governments (“ECC”) on Wednesday, February 5.
Newly elected government officials are required to take “two clock hours” of ethics training within their first year of elected office. Trey and Dave provided that training for newly elected officials from municipalities within Craven, Pamlico, Jones, and Lenoir counties at the ECC. The training covered topics in open meeting laws, statutory conflict of interests, and public contracting.
The ECC is a multi-county, local government, planning and development organization. The ECC is one of sixteen councils of government in NC, supporting local governments in its area through regional initiatives, projects, resources, and technical assistance.
Trey is the appointed Town Attorney for the towns of Bayboro, Bridgeton, and North Topsail Beach and routinely works with other local governments in a variety of general legal and civil litigation matters. Dave is the only lawyer in the state appointed as County Attorney for three counties—Jones, Pamlico, and Lenoir counties and also serves as the Town Attorney for the towns of River Bend, Pollocksville, Vandemere, and Grantsboro.
